    O que são Anúncios?

    Announcements allow instructors to communicate with students about course activities and post interesting course-related topics. Announcements are designed to allow instructors to broadcast information out to an entire class. Students may be able to apply to announcements, but replies are not considered to be a conversation and do not appear in the Conversations Inbox.

  • When a course is completed and you want to provide read-only access to the course, you may be able to conclude the course manually in Canvas. However, if your institution uses software that automatically concludes enrollments, you do not have to manually end your course since the end date of the course will automatically conclude the course on your behalf.

    When courses are manually concluded, all enrollments are removed from the course and placed in the prior enrollments page. All users in the course will have read-only access. This change applies to all enrollments, including course instructors. Instructor-based roles will no longer have the same access in the course and will result in loss of course functionality and user information, such as viewing SIS data. If full functionality is still required for instructors but you want to conclude the course for students, you can change the end date of the course. Please note that instructors can also change the course date for their courses.

    Once a course is concluded, if you do not want students to be able to view the course at all, you can restrict students from viewing prior courses.

    Note: Manually concluding a course is a course permission. If the Conclude this Course button does not appear in Course Settings, this setting has been restricted for your course. If you are an instructor, contact your admin for assistance.

    Note: You can unconclude courses if necessary.

    O que é Conferences?

    Conferences are primarily used for virtual lectures, virtual office hours, and student groups. They can also be used to demonstrate technologies or troubleshoot technology issues online. Conferences can accommodate up to 50 people. Currently, Canvas integrates with BigBlueButton.

  • In Conversations, you can send a message to one user or multiple users in a course.

    Note: Currently you cannot message users in multiple courses.

  • Crocodoc is a tool that allows annotations on online assignment submissions in Canvas. If Crocodoc has been enabled for your institution, you can use Crocodoc for assignments. You can also use Crocodoc when viewing annotated feedback on assignment submissions.

    When you open a submission, Crocodoc will automatically save any annotations made to the submission file for one hour. You can restart a Crocodoc session at any time by refreshing the submission page. To help you avoid losing work, Canvas will generate a session expiration warning after 50 minutes.

    Some browsers may not initially render comments correctly when viewing feedback. If your browser includes a built-in PDF viewer, select the option to view the PDF in the system viewer. You can also download PDF files with comments to view on your computer. The settings required to view or print the annotations in the PDF vary based on the software installed on your computer.

    Compatible Crocodoc Files

    If a submission includes a file that can be rendered in Crocodoc, but the submission preview is not complete, Canvas will generate a message stating the document is still processing.

    If a file is submitted that is not compatible with Crocodoc, the Canvas document previewer will still display the file, but Crocodoc markup and commenting will not be available.

    Canvas currently supports .doc/.docx, .ppt/.pptx, and .pdf Crocodoc file formats.

    Notes:

    • Crocodoc is not available in the Canvas beta environment, so Crocodoc documents will never be rendered.
    • Files over 100 MB and password-protected files will not be converted by Crocodoc.
    • Crocodoc annotations can be viewed in the Canvas by Instructure app.
    • Crocodoc annotations cannot be viewed by screen readers; for users with accessibility concerns, please leave feedback in the assignment's comments sidebar.
    • Crocodoc has limitations when used in Firefox. To avoid losing any annotations, click the screen before navigating away from the page, or choose another browser.
  • Your instructor may include a rubric as part of a graded discussion. The rubric is a set of criteria that your instructor will use to grade your discussion. Before submitting your discussion, you can use the rubric to evaluate your own work and make sure your discussion fulfills your instructor's requirements.

    Note: Not all graded discussions may include a rubric.

  • Editing the Syllabus allows you to add text and link files, images, and other course content in your Syllabus Description.

    Notes: Image files do not have a preview option when added as a file link through the Rich Content Editor.

  • If one of your courses includes a long or confusing name, you can create a nickname for your course to help you organize your Dashboard. Most courses are created using Student Information Systems (SIS) that generate course names based on terms, departments, and section numbers, and courses with similar names may be hard to distinguish.

    Course nicknames appear in the Dashboard, Course Navigation Menu, course breadcrumbs, and notification emails.

    A course nickname does not affect the course name at the account or course level; it only changes the name of the course for the individual user who created the nickname.

    If users need to know the original name of the course, they can hover over the nickname and the original name will appear. Users can also restore the original name completely by deleting the nickname. Additionally, the course code is not affected and always displays on the course card for course reference.

    Note: This feature does not currently apply to the global Grades page and Dashboard sidebar elements such as the To Do list.

    Qual é a função do Observador?

    In Canvas, the Observer role can be used to enroll parents, mentors, and guests who would like to participate in a Canvas course but do not need to earn course credit. Observers have limited permissions that allow them to see what is going on in a course without interrupting the flow of daily course communication. Like students, Observers cannot view a course until it is published and the course has started.

    Observers may be able to view assignments, course events, and grades for a student in the Canvas Parent app.
